But you have to take certain measures for perfect gardening.

Most people probably were unaware of the infections caused by using unclean hand tools.

Hence, hand washing and sanitizing is better for prevention of infections.

You must be very careful about the cleanliness. Therefore, you have to keep in mind that you have to clean your hands as well as the hand tools used in your garden while gardening.

Maintaining garden tools

If you have ever planted a garden, you know how therapeutic and rewarding gardening can be. You can’t expect your yard to be green if your gardening tools are dirty, however.

From tiny trowel to the mighty mower, it’s time to learn how to clean and maintain your garden gadgets.

Maintaining garden hand tools like trowels, and hand tools is also easy but should be done with care. Brush off dirt with a metal brush. To remove rust, sand the tools lightly with fine sand paper. After cleaning the tools, it’s important to have a good place to store them.

To keep dirt and rust off tools, you have to stir either cooking oil or motor oil into a bucket of sand sized to fit the tools you use on a regular basis. When the tools are not in use, plunge the tools into the oily sand.

You can protect the wooden handles of your garden hand tools from cracking with a coat of linseed oil. Dip a cloth into the oil and wipe over the handle. You can repeat this process if the wood looks dry.

Terra cotta pots and saucers can be cleaned and stained by soaking in a solution of nine parts warm water to one part of chlorine bleach. Immerse the pots in the solution for a few minutes, and then scrub lightly with a metal brush. Rinse the pots and allow them to dry before using for plants.

Always keep in mind to wear old clothes while doing this process or protect clothes in case the solution splashes outside the container.

You can remove the rust on clippers by making a paste mixture of lemon juice and cream tartar. Dip a cloth in the mixture and lightly rub over the clippers, even the citric acid will also help you to remove the rust.

Is sanitizing must while gardening?

Remember always that hand tools should be clean and sanitized as well as sharp while gardening. Although sanitizing tools may be inconvenient and seldom practiced, doing so may prevent the spread of disease from infected to healthy trees on contaminated tools.

Tools become contaminated when they come into contact with fungi, bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms that cause disease in trees. Microorganisms on tool surfaces are easily introduced into susceptible trees when subsequent cuts are made.

You should sanitize before each branch is cut while pruning fruit trees. You can use 70% denatured alcohol or with liquid household bleach diluted with 1 to 9 with water.

You have to immerse the hand tools in the solution preferably for 1 to 2 minutes and you can go on with a clean and perfect gardening.
